This is a 'must' cookbook for serious chefsThe most interesting thing about IN SEASON is the author's personal tales relative to each of the principal ingredients about which he writes. It is more than a cookbook, it is fascinating personal epoch which draws you in and keeps your interest, all the while giving good advice and recipes about Northwest products.

Is Feminist Philosophy Philosophy? (Northwestern University Studies in Phenomenology & Existential Philosophy.)
Published in Paperback by Northwestern University Press (July, 2000)
Average review score:

Very IntellectualI bought this book because I liked the title and the author's name sounded romantic but I have to admit, the content was at times a bit over my head. By the time I was done reading I hadn't figured out quite if feminist philosophy really was philosophy or not. I think I will have to read it again. However, I did think that it was quite an interesting assortment of essays and one I am proud to have on my shelf.

It's a Working Man's Town: Male Working-Class Culture in Northwestern Ontario
Published in Hardcover by McGill-Queens University Press (December, 1991)
Average review score:

CAPITUALIZING THE ESSENCE OF THE CANADIAN WORKING CLASS CULTAfter completing the book, I have examined the contents closely, discovering that Thomas Dunk has captured the essence of the working class male. It is refreshing to read and study the social-class interactions and bonding that so stratify the working class male. It is the research for my Sociology 361 Class, and thereby intended that we examine closely the relationships and class structures. I consider the book an easy and enjoyable read, enlightning and educational, even for the novice to ethnographical studies.

John Sarich's Food & Wine of the Pacific Northwest
Published in Paperback by Documentary Book Pub Corp (June, 2003)
Average review score:

Every recipe I've tried has been stellar!I can't say enough nice things about this slim littlecookbook. First, every recipe I've tried has been stellar -- and I'veused the recipes with several dinner parties to rave reviews. Second, I appreciate the organization. Sarich classifies every recipe by seasonability of ingredents, cost of ingredients, and time needed for preparation...very helpful features that I wish more cookbooks shared. Third, I like the lay-flat spiral binding, which makes it handy to use. Fourth, the presentation and photography are beautiful. Interestingly, I've bragged up book to several out-of-town guests, and they've purchased the book (even though they don't live in the Pacific Northwest). Additionally, the indices at the back of the book include wine and food/herbs/spices pairing, wine descriptions, and useful lists of ingredients to have on hand depending on what type of cuisine you tend to cook.

Jonathan Carver's Travels Through America, 1766-1768: An Eighteenth-Century Explorer's Account of Uncharted America
Published in Hardcover by John Wiley & Sons (26 January, 1993)
Average review score:

A true account of early explorations.== For those interested in the early explorations of what is now the Midwest, this is an outstanding and interesting read.
From its initial publication in London in the late 1760's Carver's travels thrilled readers both in the colonies and in Europe.
== It is not exactly an action-adventure book, but for those who enjoy accounts of Louis and Clark this would be an excellent addition to a library.
